PANORAMA — The weekend of February 10 saw the running of seventh annual Linda Putnam memorial ski race at Panorama Mountain Village.
The Linda Putnam memorial, initiated by Team Panorama, hosts 210 children from Alberta and B.C. in a unique race format where the children 10 and under get to have eight separate timed starts in four hours. Head Nancy Greene coach Sigrid Sharp says it’s amazing watching how the talent of the kids has gone steadily upward since the race’s inception. It is also a fantastic day to see the kids have so many timed runs, which enables them to really practice their racing skills. By the end of the four hours the kids are ready for bed.
Linda Putnam, a family member of Team Panorama, was tragically taken from us in an avalanche in Austria and her memory lives on yearly with the highest energy race of the season. This year’s team trophy went to Team Panorama and the fastest overall boy and girl were Cassidy Gray and Trigg Sharp from Team Panorama (pictured above).
