Lawrence Sholinder
August 5, 1924 – March 28, 2011
Lawrence was raised in Maidstone, Saskatchewan. He married Violet Tasker in 1944. They moved to the valley in 1951 and purchased the Richardson farm known as Shady Brook Resort. They farmed for a number of years before starting the resort in 1956. Lawrence started Sholinder & MacKay Excavating and Sand & Gravel.
In his retirement, Lawrence started collecting rocks and fossils. He did silversmithing and carving. He built the rock shop to sell his and Violet’s artwork. He loved going to Quartsite, Arizona for the winters and did this for many years. Lawrence was also an avid gardener. But his greatest joy was his family and friends.
Lawrence is survived by his six children, Georgina Dubois (Bill), Carol MacKay (Alex), Arlee Romane, Ralph Sholinder (Kelly), Larry Sholinder (Aline), and Linda Byman. Eighteen grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother, Fay (Kay), and two sisters, Elsie Hanson (Leonard) and Francis Pushie.
Lawrence is predeceased by his wife, Violet Lillian Sholinder in July 2004, one grandchild, Marlene MacKay, and sister, Betty Morris.
A service was held on April 2 at Christ Church Trinity.
