Kelvin John (Kel) Ladyka
was born on May 16th, 1957 in Invermere, BC and passed away suddenly on April 4th, 2010 in the Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 52 years. He was an amazing man with an infectious smile and a wam hug for all of those he called a friend.
Kel was a valued and dedicated lineman with BC Hydro for over 30 years. He made countless friends throughout his career and many co-workers are proud to call him a “brother.” Kel’s work brought him to the Okanagan in 1993 and he and his family have lived in Lavington since then.
Kel was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting with his father-in-law, George and brother-in-law, Rob in Northern BC and fishing with anyone who would go with him. He spent many nights camping with his friends and family and he will be greatly missed around the campfire. Another one of Kel’s loves was his Harley. It shines with his pride and holds many happy memories of roadtrips to the Coast and many great times around town.
Kel’s greatest love was for his family. You have never met a prouder father or a more smitten husband. It was obvious to anyone who knew Kel that he had a great and contented life, one that was cut far too short. His family and friends have been robbed of so many more years spent with a truly wonderful man.
Kel is survived by his beautiful wife, Kathy; his children, Kelly (Allison) of Chilliwack, BC, Clayton of Maple Ridge, BC, Chelsey and Chace, both of Lavington, BC. Also left behind is Kel’s mother, Elizabeth Haluck of Calgary, AB ; his sisters, Darlene (John) Shane of Campbell River, BC and Charlotte (Adam) Pasowisty of Cranbrook, BC. Kel’s in-laws will also miss him: George (Deann) Fraser of Newburg, ON; Bev Lawrence of Enderby, BC, Rob (Colleen) Fraser and children from Taylor, BC and Glenn, Morgan and Ty Terpsma of Langley, BC.
Kel was preceded in death by his father, John Ladyka in 1975; his step-father, Albert Haluck in 2002; and his sister-in-law, Vicki Fraser-Terpsma in 2000.
Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Kel’s Life which was held at the Vernon Alliance Chuch on Saturday, April 10th, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. with Pastor Jeremy Kinniburgh officiating. A Reception followed at the Vernon Lodge.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Kel to the charity of their choice.
