Want proof your vote counts? In Radium Hot Springs, one council candidate edged out her competition by a single vote.
Veteran councillors Clara Reinhardt and Ron Verboom were returned to their posts with 130 votes each, and newcomer Todd Logan was right behind them with 129. But Radium’s other three council contenders all received far fewer votes, with a slight margin of victory for the village’s fourth new elected official.
Preliminary numbers put Karen Larsen ahead of incumbent Don Devlin and challenger Deborah Fischer with 79 votes to their 73 and 78.
While official voter turnout figures are still to come, it doesn’t look like the village’s new mail in voting plan has dramatically improved turnout numbers from 2008, when 34 per cent of the community’s electors (just over 150 residents) cast ballots.
