This summer, Scrappy-Do’s in Invermere will be offering a brand new program alongside its scrapbooking and calendar classes.
Hip Hop Flip-Flops, named by Scrappy-Do’s owner Trudi Wells’ daughter, Maddy, is a first-time flip-flop design class offered this summer in Invermere.
Those interested can register through Scrappy-Do’s for the classes, which will begin July 2 and take place on Wednesdays and Saturdays throughout the summer at 5:30 p.m.
The cost is $10 per class, which are roughly an hour and a half long.
The store’s shelves will be pushed back to create an open workshop area where a maximum of seven participants will be fitted with a pair of flip-flops, choose their material and can decorate away. Additional decorations, like large, colourful flowers, will cost an extra $5.
However, the speciality flip-flops will be for sale at Scrappy-Do’s after the classes, if people are interested in owning a pair of the decorative footwear, but not in making them.
“The idea came from when we were in Texas,” said Wells. “We’d go to swim meets and they’d have these classes. The kids loved it. People are already interested in these classes.”
Wells went on to say that people have already begun to register, and it is expected that the classes will fill up quickly during the summer.
As for whether or not this class will be available in future summers, Wells said, “We’ll do it as long as people want us to.”
